Widespread protests resume at several universities across the country

As universities reopened on Saturday, students at several universities protested. The protests at Sharif and Amir Kabir universities were reported to be the largest in terms of the number of students participating.

Reports and videos also indicate demonstrations at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and a strike at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at Shahid Beheshti University.

Student protests at Amir Kabir and Sharif Industrial Universities were accompanied by attacks by Basij militia and clashes between students chanting anti-dictatorship slogans and Basij thugs. The demonstration by polytechnic students with the slogan “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, we are all together” took place on Valiasr Street. Among the slogans heard during today’s student demonstrations were:

Down with the dictator,

Freedom, freedom, freedom,

Student, shout, shout for your rights.
